COMMUNITY SERVICE: a look back at the first semester

What a fantastic semester! Participation in the first semester’s community service projects was fantastic. The year started with: a donation of more than 500 pounds of food to Action Partnership; setting up, assisting, and breaking down the Council on Aging and People Helping People festivals; and maintaining our coast by participating in the Coastal Cleanup with the state of California.

As we moved into October, students donated Halloween candy for the Boys & Girls Club of Orange County, raised $750 and walked in the CHOC Walk at Disneyland, and hosted a cupcake decorating booth at the Anaheim Fall Festival.

As we got closer to the holiday season, students donated Boxes of Love for those unable to afford a Thanksgiving meal, donated to the Family Resource Center Hygiene Drive, went to a senior home to visit with the residents, and donated hundreds of toys to the Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) through Fairmont’s annual CHOC Toy Drive.

Semester two will prove to be just as successful! We begin the semester with a clothing drive for the Orangewood Children’s Foundation followed by a SOUPer Bowl Food Drive for Second Harvest Food Bank. April 10 - 16, 2011 is National Volunteer Week and the Prep will be participating in a special project – stay tuned!

The school year will end with participating in the AIDS Walk, Arthritis Walk, and the Kristie’s Foundation BBQ and Festival. The tentative total of service hours that can be earned in semester two is 30. Thank you for continuing to take the time to "Paws for a Cause!"

Seniors – don't wait until the last minute to finish your community service graduation requirement! Senior hours are due by Tuesday, April 12th and the reflection project is due by Tuesday, April 26th.
