MUSIC: performance groups shine in winter concert

On Tuesday, December 7 the Prep's music program was showcased in a Winter Concert for the entire student body, faculty and staff. Our Concert Band, Concert Choir, Show Choir, Combined Choir and Orchestra repeated the program in the evening for parents, friends, and family. Traditional holiday music combined with festive performances entertained the audience.

Orchestra kicked off the performance with a set including Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 (excerpt), by Johann Sebastian Bach; Concerto in D Major, by Georg Phillip Telemann; What Child is This…?, arranged by Ovidiu Marinca; and Hungarian Dance No. 5, by Johannes  Brahms.

Combined Choir followed with classical Christmas fare such as Carol of the Bells and Carol of the Drums, then ended with the more modern "Wonderful Christmastime," and the jazzy "Baby It’s Cold Outside." As Show Choir left the risers to prepare for their number, Concert Choir sang a beautiful ballad called "Winterlight," and then ended their program with Grinch, following the story of the "Whos in Whoville."

Concert Band took their place on stage beginning with Carol of the Bells. Before moving into their jazz band repertoire, they performed the Nutcracker highlights in a piece titled 3 Minute Nutcracker. Jazz selections included The Incredibles, 25 or 6 to 4, Theme from Family Guy, and Good King Swings. Ending their part of the program, the band performed out traditional Christmas Pop Sing Along consisting of 4 popular songs for the audience to sing.

The Show Choir performed their always anticipated finale with "The Way I Are" – the middle selection for their competition set.

The music program will travel to the Honolulu Festival March 9-14 for competition, and will end the season locally on April 9 with our annual Disney competition. Save the date for our Spring Concert on April 12!
