COMMUNITY SERVICE: pennies for patients

Fairmont Prep joins more than 25,000 schools nationwide in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Pennies for Patients drive. For the next few weeks, we will be helping people who are sick with blood cancers like leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, or myeloma. The Prep's 3rd period homeroom classes are in competition with one another to collect the most coins... in fact, even paper money and checks are accepted! We welcome pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, half dollars, bills, or checks to raise money for this worthwhile cause.

Typically the LLS gives us a patient as our "hero," whom we raise funds in honor of... this year, the cause is even more near and dear to the Prep's heart. Our honored hero is Brian, a fourth grade student in Mrs. Schoening’s class at Fairmont's Mable Campus.

Brian's favorite colors are blue, purple and green. Dumplings and Kung Pao Chicken are Brian’s favorite foods. He likes Hi-Chew grape candy and... well, all candy! He likes to play the piano, perform magic tricks, watch TV on the internet, and work on math. He also enjoys computer class and hanging out with his friends at school. When Brian goes to the hospital -- even though the food is terrible -- he gets to watch movies, get shots that don’t hurt, and be taken care of very well.

Please take the time to donate to your homeroom’s collection box. Your donations will help researchers find a cure, and allow children like Brian to continue enjoying life.

Our school goal is to raise $1,500 before February 25. Every cent counts, so please contribute to your homeroom's collection box!
