TEACHER FEATURE: dr. robert varnold

Dr. Robert Varnold has been working at Fairmont since 1997 and is currently the Science Department Chair. During his time at Fairmont, he has taught AP Chemistry, Honors Chemistry, CP Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, AP Biology, AP Physics, Honors Physics, and Survivor. He is also the advisor for Key Club and Academic Decathlon. Dr. Varnold received his Bachelor’s in Biology and Chemistry at Northern Iowa, his Master’s in Biochemistry at Purdue, and his Ph.D. in Developmental Biology at UC Irvine.

Outside of the classroom, he enjoys reading science fiction and biographies, watching the Science Channel, and taking long walks on the beach. Dr. Varnold played tennis in high school and also enjoys volleyball and badminton.
