HUSKY NEWSROOM: Optimist International Oratorical Contest

On Friday, March 16, the local Optimist International Oratorical Contest was held on the Fairmont Preparatory Academy campus with eight students competing in two divisions. The theme for this year's contest was "How my optimism helps me to overcome obstacles." Each contestant spoke between 4 and 5 minutes on this topic. The judges' decisions resulted in the following winners:

Girls
First Place: Kayla Bach (9th grade)
Second Place: Tianyi Zhang (11th grade)
Third Place: Jessica Chung (9th grade)

Boys
First Place: Nikhil Narang (12th grade)
Second Place: Wali Kamal (12th grade)
Third Place: Meeran Ismail (9th grade)

Honorable Mention
Austin Kaidi (11th grade)
Nakul Makkad (11th grade)

The two winners in each division will represent Fairmont in the Area Optimist Oratorical Contest on Wednesday, April 18 at the South Gate Park Senior Center at 6:30 p.m. Congratulations to all who participated and good luck to the winners in their next competition.
