Fairmont Music consisting of Concert Band, Concert Choir, and Show Choir traveled to London April 2-7, 2012 for the London Festival of Music where we returned with 5 brand new beautiful trophies and our first set of international rankings! Concert Choir and Show Choir both had excellent performances earning them Silver rankings. The Band struggled a little with strange stage set up and missing instruments but still earned the Bronze. Our Show Choir received the trophy for the top scoring choir and our music program earned "Knights of the Round Table" trophy for overall excellence and group work. Besides competition, we were involved in public performances everyday. The Concert Choir performed a spiritual repertoire for Eucharist mass at St Paul's Cathedral and all three groups entertained passers by at breathtaking Regents Park. It was quite an honor to see posters and hand outs of our smiling faces throughout London. (I even brought some back to put on our walls in the classroom.) Although it seemed like we were constantly performing, we were able to do some sight seeing as well at places such as Windsor Castle, the British Museum, a bus tour of Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, Tower of London, and a trip to the theater to see Chicago. In my opinion, our first international showing was a great success and an experience I hope they will look back at fondly! I am so proud of our students and expect that this is yet another milestone we have set on our way to Husky Excellence.
