Welcome Back From Headmaster

Dear Fairmont Families,

It is with great excitement and anticipation that I welcome you to the 2012-2013 school year.  We have been hard at work all summer to ensure a fantastic experience for our families.  We fully expect to build on the success of last year, while continuing to improve upon our teaching and administrative staff, facilities, service to our families and an already acclaimed academic program.  I would like to take a few moments to highlight some key changes and additions to the Prep.

We are proud to announce the addition of our new Counseling and College Center.  The Counseling and College Center is now located in the heart of the main high school building.  It is easily accessible to students and parents throughout the day and serves as an example of our dedication to provide the best level of service possible to our families.  We have also added three new counselors to our existing staff, increasing the total number of counselors to eight. There will be four academic counselors and four dedicated college counselors.  This is quite unprecedented for a school of our size and brings our student-to-counselor ratio to approximately 85:1.  This ratio outshines both public and private schools nationwide with ratios that range from 200:1 all the way to 500:1.  I am confident that you will feel the difference.  In a school that consistently touts 86% of all graduates gaining acceptance to the top 100 colleges and universities in the country, it will be both exciting and rewarding to see how much we can improve on our amazing outcomes.

We have created four additional classrooms on the second floor of the administration building, placed remote access points throughout the campus to support our technology initiative (you will be hearing much more about this amazing program in the weeks and months to come), created a writing center as part of the Prep Plus program to meet the needs of our students, added additional security staff, and strengthened our dress code with the intention of maintaining a professional school environment.

There are many other reasons to look forward to the start of school but it is simply not possible to capture it in one letter.  It is my sincere hope that all of our families will participate in the various opportunities that become available throughout the year.  Whether it is attending Parent Association meetings, Sunrise Sessions, athletic events, theater arts productions or simply meeting with teachers or counselors, your involvement is critical to the success of your student. I look forward to seeing you on campus soon!  Go Huskies!

  1. Thank you, Mr. Mendoza! I am definitely looking forward to an amazing, successful year as a Husky, although I may be susceptible to severe sleep deprivation this year!
