STUDENT ACTIVITES: Around the World Festivities

During the week of March 9th, Prep students celebrated three days of Around The World events. ATW day one celebrated the culture of North America, South America and Australia. At noon, hula performances in the gym provided students with an exuberant display of traditional Polynesian culture. Lunch time activities included a Mexican mariachi band performing in front of the vending machine.

ATW day two celebrated Europe, Asia, and Africa. Performances in the gym included Anne Thanh Lion Dance and Gypsy Folks Ensemble. Many students also enjoyed lunch time activities, such as Fortune tellers, Reptile Island, and the Holi Festival.

The third day of ATW fell on Friday, and students gathered excitedly in the gym to watch talent show performances by friends and classmates. After 13 wonderful acts, four faculty judges engaged in heated discussions to decided who the ultimate winners would be. A special performance by Mr. Dunn and Mr. Voss lightened the gym as results were calculated. Finally, Bowen Chen received the Best Single Performance Award. My Le, Jade Luu, Vicki Luong, Vy Nguyen, and Shelly Nguyen received the Best Group Performance Award, and Yanni Zhang received the Best Overall Performance Award. Congratulations to all winners and great job with this year's ATW week!

The Fairmont Prep Boys and Girls had a landmark season in spring 2015. The Boys were able to become league champions and advance to the CIF tournament. Through hard work and extra practice, our team really stepped it up in the 2014-2015 school year. Likewise, the girls broke their losing streak and had a record setting season in Fairmont history. Although soccer does not receive as much attention as other popular sports, it has played a crucial role in constructing the intricate network of friendship between domestic and international students. The teams include students from Vietnam, China, Korea, and etc. Let’s give another shout out to the soccer team for having a great season! The soccer team plays their home games down the street at Trident. Please come out and show your husky spirit!
