NEWSLETTER: August 21, 2015 News & Announcements

Improved Newsletter Layout & Design
Just as our campuses have been polished and refreshed for the new school year, so, too, have our weekly newsletters. We've simplified the layout for easier navigation and incorporated a more modern design. At the top, you'll find a "Photo of the Week," as well as a side navigation bar pointing you to each section of the newsletter, as well as our social media sites. New sections may appear from week to week, including "Early Childhood Education," which shows off the progress of our youngest students, "Husky Highlight" featuring exciting, relevant Fairmont Prep news, and "Director's Message" from your Campus Director or other administrators. Each section includes a "Read More" link - just in case they happen to "go long." You will still find links to monthly lunch menus, campus calendars, athletic schedules and results, blog posts, pins of the week, and campus videos. Lastly, as we know, everyone loves photos of their students in action. We've created a Photo Gallery along the bottom of the newsletter, featuring links to the three most recent school events we've shared via Facebook and Flickr. Of course, for the most recent photos, news, and information on all things Fairmont, visit or and "follow," "like," and "subscribe" to our official Fairmont Private Schools social media pages. Hope you enjoy the changes. Have a wonderful new school year!

Ambassadors Needed!
Headmaster Mendoza needs Student Ambassadors who will represent Fairmont Prep at special events on campus and at nearby Fairmont campuses. This includes helping prospective students as a Shadow Guide and College Fair Guide during Open House, as well as other fun activities. Breakfast with a Counselor
Breakfast with a Counselor is an opportunity for parents and guardians to informally meet over breakfast with the Prep's counselors to discuss topics in their student's academic life. Below is a list of topics that will be discussed for the 15-16 school year. Click here to view this year's sessions. We hope you will have an opportunity to join us!

College Counseling
It is only the first week of school and we are already receiving requests from dozens of colleges and universities to visit Fairmont Prep this fall and meet with our students. Generally, we host three kinds of college visits. The first is a regular daytime visit when college admissions representatives come to Fairmont Prep and meet with small groups of seniors interested in that particular institution. These meetings usually take place in the counseling center and students are informed about them through Naviance. Well over 80 colleges visited campus last year to meet with our students! The second type of visit we get is when an admissions counselor is an invited guest speaker in a class. Examples of this include people from pharmacy schools and health science institutions who visit our science classes, and admissions counselors from art conservatories who visit the AP art classes to discuss educational possibilities and conduct portfolio reviews. Finally, we have our annual College Fair which will take place this year on Tuesday evening, October 13 at 6:00 pm. Last year, over 100 different colleges and universities from around the world participated in this event. The Counseling Department encourages students to take advantage of these wonderful opportunities to meet with college representatives to learn about a wide range of educational institutions.

Community Service - Action Partnership Food Drive
Action Partnership is dedicated to alleviating poverty and its root causes by helping people and changing lives. This is accomplished through building better communities, improving health, reducing hunger, averting crisis, and strengthening families in low-income communities. Action Partnership mobilizes both public and private resources to help the people move out of poverty by meeting basic needs and helping them to become more self-sufficient. They provide food to the hungry, after school programs, family services, conduct community development activities, mentoring, provide refurbished computers to low-income students, distribute food and clothing, and much more. Travel Week 2015-2016
Fairmont Prep is offering three amazing trips to Germany, Peru, and Florida through World Strides. Our two international trips include a trip to Germany featuring a visit to Amsterdam with a focus on WWII and the Holocaust. We will visit Anne Frank's house and the Holocaust Museum while learning about the culture of this beautiful country. The Peru trip will provide opportunities for students to explore the Incan Empire while engaging in community service activities. Students will serve at a local school, as well as learn about the culture, enjoy local cuisine, and have fun. Our domestic trip to Florida will be full of excitement. The week begins at the Kennedy Space Center where we will explore the center and enjoy having lunch with an astronaut. During the next three days, we will receive a behind the scenes tour of Walt Disney World while exploring the parks and having fun. On the last day, we will swim with dolphins! Registration has begun and we hope you will participate in one of these amazing trips. Click here to see the flyer with the trip ID#'s and full price of each trip. If you would like more information about Travel Week, please contact Mrs. Anna Kunkle, Travel Week Coordinator.
