STUDENT ACTIVITIES: 2015 Spirit Week and Homecoming Re-Cap

October 5th to 10th was Fairmont Prep’s Homecoming Spirit Week, “Homecomic-con”. During the week, students engaged in various activities at lunch that were planned out by each grade level within ASB. Day one was Minion Day, hosted by the freshman class. Students got to dress up as their favorite character from Despicable Me or a minion. “The freshmen put on a great day, with a carnival theme just like the movie,” says Esther Park (Junior). Day two was Anime Day hosted by the sophomores where students were able to dress up as a Japanese cartoon character. Students enjoyed lunchtime activities including a bounce house, a photobooth, a balloon artist, and more. “I really liked how the sophomores were able to make such a culturally aware day for spirit week,” says Zac Tran (Senior). Day three was Sci-fi day hosted by the juniors. The juniors created a great day with Star Wars and Star Trek decorations as well as having futuristic games like bubble soccer. "I really enjoyed playing bubble soccer. It was a lot of fun,” says Kevin Karam (Junior). Day four was Marvel vs DC hosted by the seniors. Students got to dress up as their favorite superheros. There were enjoyable games such as a test your strength game, obstacle courses to race with your friends, and they even had superhero ice cream. "the bounce houses  were bouncy and when they were making balloons I was like woah." says Frank Salas (Junior) Overall spirit week was awesome!

The rally on Friday "Ready Player One". Students enjoyed competed in different events such as sumo wrestling, save your princess, and jousting. The seniors came in first place and Juniors came in second place.

Friday evening was the homecoming game against Riverside Prep. Huskies came out on top with a score of 43-14. Daniel Chatman (senior) scored 5 touchdowns, Michael Chatman (junior) scored 1 touchdown, and Kevin Karam (freshman) had 1 as well. During the halftime show there were superheros everywhere, freshman princess Chloe Lee alongside prince Scott Hong were announced. The sophomore court, Colleen Dalusong and Andrew Kim. The Junior court consisted of Kiki Mendoza and Esther Park. Lastly, senior class prince Jimmy Wang and the princess Rachel Williams. Our 2015 Homecoming King and Queen was announced and crowned, King Matthew Tuinstra and Queen Claire Son. The halftime show was filled with excitement which was a preset for Homecoming the next day.

On Saturday, October 10th, students gathered in Fairmont Prep’s parking lot, which was decorated for Homecomic-con. There was a huge stage with comic con banners hanging down the sides as well as great food and drinks. “I was super surprised to see such amazing decorations when I got to the dance, it looked like a rave,” says Leanne Agulto (Senior) The week finally came to an end at midnight with Prep students leaving very pleased and tired after a fantastic Spirit Week and Homecoming 2015.

  7. This year's spirit week was way better than last year's. I feel proud to be able to say that I helped create this amazing week. The food, games, activities, and costumes were phenomenal. The sophomore's had the best hallway (totally not biased). It was really the perfect opener for Homecoming -which was great too.
